I just don’t understand why she had to throw a fellow powerful feminist under the bus. BEYONCÉ performs the way she does, because that is what SHE (Beyoncé) wants.
The thing most white feminists ignore is that the Black female body is hyper sexualized and we can’t do most…
STOP GENERALISING TO EVERY WHITE FEMINIST
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Surely we should be uniting over WOMENS RIGHTS not blue, white, black, green rights.
Just a thought from a WHITE feminist who’s in this for human rights, not anything else.
Hello. I, a WHITE feminist, am really bewildered by your commentary in part because while you so obviously disagree with the OP, you offer no argument or evidence of any kind whatsoever to refute their point. If anything, you prove a point about how white feminists often willfully perpetuate a type of “colorblind feminism” which fails to address the intersection of racism and sexism. What the HELL were you thinking making up “blue” rights. Blue rights? BLUE RIGHTS. We are examining a matter of race, particularly about anti-black racism, and you want to make up a race of blue people? Great Job at Feminism! Way 2 Compare Real People 2 Yr fucking IMAGINATION. Fuck all of the way off with your ignorance.
Thank you for taking my point in completely the wrong way.
All I was saying is that we should stop viewing things in terms of colour! And the blue rights comment? Calm the fuck down. I don’t base human rights on their skin colour, that was my point. But again, thanks for your explosion of misunderstanding.
Again with the colorblindness? Stop. White supremacy has made race/skin color an issue. To ignore skin color is a weak attempt to ignore the damage that white supremacy has done and continues to perpetrate against people of color, particularly black people.
If your feminism is not intersectional it is useless. If you want to ignore race, kindly get off my blog.
What so your answer is continue to make it hugely important? Surely that’s like backwards racism?
Think I will get off your blog, talk about aggression.
Omg, no no no it’s not lol. It’s important to recognize people’s identities and to recognize how those identities are treated by society and seek to end the perpetuation of discrimination based on preconceived notions and the devaluation of those identities. The answer to diffusing and eradicating systematic racism and oppression of PoC is not to ignore skin color and pretend it doesn’t matter, or to ignore offensiveness of white feminists and their problematic behavior that, historically, has thrown PoC and WoC under the bus, but to discuss what is problematic and how white feminists can be better activists and better feminists. Because historically, white feminists haven’t done a good job at being inclusive of WoC and women who are not typically of the white western culture or your typical white Christians. Feminism is not feminism if it throws marginalized women under the bus. Feminism isn’t feminism if it isn’t inclusive or intersectional. Feminism has to give acknowledgment and precedent to marginalized women and women who are oppressed for more reasons than just being female.
le-wolf, you’re saying you’re a feminist, but do you not see how you’re applying typical men’s rights activist anti-feminist reasoning to the race issue?
"STOP GENERALISING TO EVERY WHITE FEMINIST" = Not all men
"Surely we should be uniting over WOMENS RIGHTS not blue, white, black, green rights. Just a thought from a WHITE feminist who’s in this for human rights, not anything else." = I’m for equality and human rights, which obviously covers women’s rights too so there’s no need to talk about that separately
"we should stop viewing things in terms of colour! … I don’t base human rights on their skin colour" = Stop viewing things in terms of gender, I don’t base human rights on gender
"so your answer is continue to make it hugely important? Surely that’s like backwards racism?" = So your answer to oppression and discrimination of women is to continue to make it hugely important? Surely that’s like turning it around and oppressing men?
Do you see what it is you’re doing? If black feminists feel they have something to say, it’s our job, yours and mine, as white feminists to sit down, shut up and listen. Not start yelling over them that their experiences don’t count because you claim to be color blind. We are not living in a color blind society which means that POC can’t AFFORD to be color blind, so for you to claim color blindness is not the progressive stance you seem to think, it’s just blithe arrogance.
Very important commentary, thank you snowlantern, you made your point much better than I.
